 tr.v. weap·oned, weap·on·ing, weap·ons

To supply with weapons or a weapon; arm.                     (From: )

A weapon is an instrument used by a single human or group of people with the intended purpose of causing harm, injury or death to another person or group of people.  They can be improvised or manufactured to inflict damage upon other people, resources, objects or even buildings. The use of weapons can be either civil or military.  Some weapons are often used as tools constructed with the purpose of increasing the efficacy and efficiency of such activities as hunting, fighting, committing criminal acts, the preserving of law and order, and the waging of war in either an offensive or defensive approach. In a broader context, weapons may include any item/object that could be used to gain a strategic, material or mental advantage over an enemy or target on land, sea, air, or even in outer space.

The perception of what constitutes a weapon can change from one person or culture to another. For example: a simple pocket knife is a tool but many people, especially in America, view them only as weapons. In many under-developed countries many people carry around machetes in their hands everywhere they go because they are the primary tools for everyday life.  But if somebody does that in the U.S. they could be arrested for carrying a weapon.  A hunting rifle to one person is a weapon of death to another.

As tools weapons have been in use by humanity since the beginning of history. From sticks and stone to rifles and missiles mankind has constantly sought to improve the utility of its implements. With this in mind we are going to enter into the study weapons, both conventional and unconventional, over the next year as we look into the subject item by item and category by category.  Please join us by checking this page in the upcoming months to learn more about the many aspects of the use of weapons.
